Classic Cat
The 14' Classic Cat is a fiberglass design modeled
after open decked cat boats sailed on Cape Cod waters from
early 1900's.
The Classic Cat's huge open cockpit with comfortable
seating for six, plus the stability from her wide beam and
low gaff rig, make her the perfect picnic boat. She is a truly
classic looking sailboat built with modern low maintenance
materials.
We have eliminated the original liner and installed a watertight sole
with flotation underneath. This improves the construction process and
retains a simple clean looking interior. The bench seats are slatted
Alaskan Yellow Cedar which add a traditional feel to the cockpit. We
have replaced the solid fir mast with a hollow mast made from spar
grade vertical grain Douglas fir.
This winter, we are rebuilding the deck mold, which will radically
change the way the hull to deck joint is made, resulting in a better
bond, and cleaner look with the rail detail. The deck lay-up is
already greatly improved as it is with a heavier core and lay-up
sequence. This new deck will have a sweet shape which should unify the
overall boat design.
